Title tag and meta description checker.

Type or paste your title and description, or load them from a live page. You see how the Google result will look on desktop and on a phone, and whether any of it will be cut off.

How to use the Title & Meta Checker

  1. Paste your title and meta description, or load them from a page address.
  2. Check the character and pixel counts against Google's limits.
  3. Edit until the preview reads well, then copy the result into your page.

Good to know

Google cuts text off by width in pixels, not by number of characters, so a title with many wide letters (W, M) is cut sooner than one with narrow ones (i, l). The pixel counts here are measured in your browser with the font Google uses, and are close but not exact: Google also rewrites titles and descriptions it thinks do not fit the search.

Questions about this tool

Aim for 30 to 60 characters and roughly 580 pixels or less on desktop. Put the main keyword near the start and make the title promise something specific.

Between 120 and 160 characters works well. Google may show a different part of the page instead, but a clear description often wins the click.

Not directly. It affects how many people click your result, which is why it is worth writing well.

Google rewrites titles it finds too long, too short, stuffed with keywords or not matching the page. A clear title that matches the page content is the best defence.
